FLEETWOOD ARMSJust off Fraser Highway is a delightful local pub called the Fleetwood Arms, set just across the road from the local library this unassuming pub offers locals daily specials and added bonuses such as its own golf league. There are a resonable collection of beers from the usual suspects and a menu full of delicious food options, I tried the Fish and chips on a Friday evening and was pleasantly suprised by the quality of the meal and its presentation, truly a square meal (served on a square plate) all in all a delightful local neighbourhood pub that also includes a beer and wine store, well worth as visit. comments appriciated. |
RED TAPE!On fraser Highway not far from where I live is a neat little cafe/diner I ate dinner there amiddst a real motorcycle and lots of interesting motor cycle themed fittings, I remarked that the place was hard to see from the highway, this comment illicited a long list of gripes the owner had with the city planning department, mostly about an innocuous sign the city are trying to get them to remove, is it unsightly or unsafe?, perhaps a danger to passing traffic? No!! it is none of these and the city refuses to say why they want it removed or to supply specifications for a sign of which they would approve, so the question is... WHAT THE HELL DO THEY WANT!! Small businesses have enough red tape to start with, so why strangle them in their attempt to get get more people through the door! An increase in customers equals more profit for the owners who pay local taxes! so city staff WHAT Gives??

WHAT A PAY RAISE!!Vancouver has a brand new Translink board of Governers, unelected, unaccountable and only answerable to the SLIMEBALLS who granted them the position, so at their very first meeting they raise the payments for attending meetings from $200 to $1200, yep 6 times what they had previously, and they were only following a recommendation in doing so, hog dang I'll have a piece of that too!! oh, no I forgot I live in the real world where I would be laughed at for even imagining such a raise, No, they were only following a suggestion, I cannot believe the cheek of these guys, I suspect they will eventually cut this back to maybe $800, a classic case of asking for a pony when you really only expect a dog!!, all I can say is these guys need some accountability so feel free to mail them at |
TECHNOLOGY IN SCHOOLSMany schools in the Grater Vancouver area have been saddled with a particularly hopeless software package ironically named "first class" the software at first glance looks sparkly but according to the users I have encountered that's where the glitz ends, the interface was descibed as "a shining example of a product designed by an expert for an expert" the coding behind the interface is undoubtedly sufficient, but it is decidedly user unfriendly. Oddly enough the education authorities have barely done any training on the use of this package, undoubtedly because of fiscal restrictions, this however does not vindicate forcing a user unfriendly package on some teaches who do not even own computers. The bottom line of the problems endured by many schools on the technology front is not just limited to buying equipment but the lack of funds even to support existing equipment. Perhaps some difficult questions need to be asked of those who apportion funds for technology in education. comments appriciated.
